Should Putra have been disqualified? How's this differ from Satone Yoshida's "false start" in Prague? Obviously Satone's was "worse," but surely it's the same rule?

The disparity between Paralympic-eligible and non-eligible categories in paraclimbing

A disparity arises between paraclimbing categories eligible for the Paralympics and those that are not—a gap that goes beyond mere eligibility. Eligible categories likely receive government funding, and while the sport is gaining momentum with an increasing number of competitions, non-eligible categories face only a heavier financial burden. World-class athletes are barred from competing simply because their category isn't included, meaning these events fail to feature the sport's strongest competitors. While the current situation is set in stone, it would be worth considering moves to bridge this gap.

I'm working on an Android app to create Beta Maps. The app allows you to create your beta and then see it move by move with a playbar. Would anyone be interested in testing it?

I have this problem that I always forget the beta for my projects. I normally write down super long text notes to remind myself exactly of what to do, but I end up never reading them because... they're too long! I know some people write beta maps on paper, but it's hard to fit every single movement, note and picture on a piece of paper. So I created this app. This way I can record exactly what I do, work on it while I'm off the wall (thinking of alternative betas) and share it with friends who have done the same project. Would anyone be interested in trying it out? It's not publicly available on the playstore yet, it needs to go through Google's closed testing process first.

Salt Lake Solo

Hey everyone, I’m thinking of grabbing lower section tickets solo for the World Cup Boulder Finals in Salt Lake this October. I’ve been following the circuit closely over the past year and know the comp format well, but this will be my first time seeing a World Climbing event live in person. I do a fair bit of solo event travel (mostly music festivals), so I’m totally fine navigating events on my own. I’m mostly just curious about the lower-bowl crowd vibe for live comps in general. Is it easy to kick up low-key, casual chat with the people sitting around you about routesetting, beta choices, and athlete attempts, or do folks down mostly stick to their own groups? Thanks!

The beauty of indoor bouldering to me has always been the freedom setters have. Some boulders are basic strength test pieces but I want to see which boulder really struck you throughout the years, maybe for creativity, forced beta, or even a wild beta break.

Dissidence - Two Shadows on the Wall | Raviandi & Ravianto Ramadhan

Mod please feel free to remove the post and redirect me if this is inappropriate here, but since the Ramadhan brothers are competitive climbers and this short documentary also cover world cup and Indonesian climbing federations, I thought it suits this community I have heard some stories about the twin but I may have missed the 2023 World Championship story and I'm absolutely appalled, and even though they said in the documentary that the federation forgot, knowing the history, even though some people there are absolutely incompetent, IMHO the non registration is definitely on purpose. I honestly don't know if I can be this committed to competitive climbing if I were them and so I just thought that more people should watch this!

Olympic Presales are a joke

Did anyone with presale drops actually get tickets? I was in Visa's presale drop 1 today and I was logged in exactly at the moment my timeslot opened and was on the page to select tickets for women's boulder finals within 20-30 seconds, and nothing. I went and checked and every. single. climbing event was unavailable. Same with Skateboarding. What's the point? So frustrating.

Just want to give a shoutout to Ahmed Toure's commentary at the Pan American Boulder Finals. The guy can name every athlete, rolls with production f\*ck-ups without missing a beat, he has genuinely funny jokes, and never sounds scripted. He just feels authentic, and it makes the whole broadcast so much more enjoyable. And AJ on co-commentary was legendary once again. They made an already great comp even better. Seriously, I hope we get this commentary duo for more IFSC/world climbing events

*I* think the European Championship is a big deal.

But, does World Climbing? Why are men and women on at the same time? And, why is the streaming budget apparently 27 euros? Watchiing the semis now. There are 8 climbers on stage at once. And, the split screen usage is infrequent and often off point. But, many of the greatest climbers in the world are there giving it their all. C'mon organizers give them and us fans a little love! Hold men's and women's events at different times. Bring a little more capability and experience to bear on the split-screen coverage. Just rock this thing.

World Climbing to vote on Suspending Israeli Climbing Federation accused of illegal activities

Sharing since I know this topic has come up here a few times: if you haven’t seen yet, there is a vote coming up next week on July 23, 2026 amongst all National federations within World Climbing to decide on whether or not the Israeli team should be suspended, as well as a vote on the status of Russia and Belarus. A question about kneepads

I know that kneepads and elbow pads are not allowed in lead and boulder comps. For speed, the old IFSC rules (Rule 9.4, 2024 version) specifically mentioned that they are allowed. However, such an exception has been removed in the 2026 version. But I still saw Emma Hunt wearing kneepads the other day when she broke the world record. In addition to the competition rules, I also read the competition regulations , the equipment code and uniform code but couldn't find anything about kneepads. Am I missing something here? Does someone have a definite answer whether kneepads are still allowed? I asked because my daughter always wears kneepads in training for protection and I want to know whether she can wear them in comps. Thanks.

How does the JPN national team selection work, and how is Satone not in the roster for the last comp?

He said in his instagram post that he didn't qualify for the final event of the season due to their team selection rule. How does the selection rule even work? It's quite mind-blowing that someone placed 4-8-14-7 in the first four comps didn't have good enough result for the final comp 🤯 Aren't these pretty decent results even within the Japanese team?

Discussions in ISO (Question)

I couldn't find previous discussions on the topic, so sorry if it's already been explained, but are athletes allowed to talk to each other in the isolation zone? So for example when they are in the waiting area and one climber is about to climb route 1 and another is about to climb route 2 (and already topped 1), can the second athlete share beta on route 1? I think I read somewhere that they are not supposed to discuss beta after observation(?), but since they all sit together I wonder how it's being prevented.
