So just before Thanksgiving I was at T. Ruggs and this guy was talking (very loudly) about how he got a DUI in October of 2023 but that he "got away with it" because he went through diversion but that it "helped" that worked in a senate office and they "fixed it" for him. My friends and I were super weirded out but it kept bothering me. I can't seem to find anywhere official if you can work in a senate office after getting a dui but figured y'all would know. I'm all about second chances but the way he was talking about it was gross. No idea who he was or which senate office

Hi hi! My partner and I are visiting from NYC and aren’t renting a car. We wanted to go skiing in Bolton Valley / somewhere that has affordable options with rentals. If anyone is planning to go that weekend, we can cover your gas!

I’ve been missing Szechuan food. Went to cafe dim sum the other night for hot pot and am highly recommending their Mala Spicy hot pot. It comes with noodles (or rice) and vegetables (carrot, daikon, cabbage, mushrooms). We ordered two types of meat, fried eggplant, and rice cakes. Ton of food for two people and we took the leftovers home. Wouldn’t get the eggplant again but everything was really good. The Szechuan dumplings were very good too. Can’t wait to go back.

Toying with taking a family vacation to Vermont in August. Our "home base" would be Burlington. The days that we'd likely be there (8/19 - 8/22) fall during UVM's move in week. Will Burlington be super crowded during that time, to the extent that visiting is a bad idea in that time period?

People don't stay because of a sense of community, they stay because they cannot afford to get out. There's too many "progressive programs" that keep active addicts here because if they lived anywhere else they'd already be dead. Obviously whoever donated to 10 grand never researchedrick bonhofer's dangers or powers of stupidity. The focus needs to be more on people escaping abusive households and more research needs to be done on the psychological warfare behind narcissistic abuse cuz that's what a lot of us are suffering from and are two programmed to even notice.

Anyone else think it is odd that a corporation with $6 billion in revenue, 300 stores, and over 30,000 employees can't get one of the two entry doors at the store on Route 7 to work properly? Saw yesterday they have essentially "thrown in the towel" and blocked the door with a garbage can. Only the north door is available to use.

Wanted to see what the general consensus is about Doma on Pine Street. Friends and I came for the $10 martini/chip combo and honestly were disappointed. We found our martinis extremely weak and wanted to give the benefit of the doubt, so tried a different drink on the menu but was not wowed. Chips were solid. Shrimp cocktail was nothing special. Sold out of oysters by the time we arrived at 6:30 ); We know this place is pretty popular and wanted to give it a fair shake. I think this place has the potential to be really good, but the quality was just not there /:

Three times now relatively recently there I've bought fruit/veg there that has turned out to be moldy, spoiling, or just plain terrible to the point where it was basically inedible. Sucks that now I have to be thoroughly checking everything I buy there. I feel like it never used to be like this.

Retail tenants so far: \-Bliss Bee \-The Scale \-Folino’s Pizza \-Bijou Blu \-Align Cycling \-who do you think the ice cream tenant will be? Is this going to become South Burlington’s church street? Sounds as though they have quite a few other interested parties as well…. We shall see….but I will say that is impressive in one year!

Do you love musicals, but hate that someone wrote and rehearsed them ahead of time? Well you're in luck because **every Wednesday in January** you can see a completely improvised musical at Vermont Comedy Club! For just $5 sweet little dollars, you can enjoy Raccoon Chorus making a musical up on the spot based off an audience suggestion. You'll also see an opening act - this week improv team HOT PRIEST - and there will be a jam afterwards where anyone can try improv themselves. Wednesdays 6:30pm Vermont Comedy Club Follow Raccoon Chorus on instagram for this and more shows: [https://www.instagram.com/p/DTL8fWHkdIn/](https://www.instagram.com/p/DTL8fWHkdIn/)

Anyone else hit that massive pothole going north on 89 on that bridge where it turns into a 55mph zone before reaching SB and Burlington exits? I fell right into it at night the other day and just noticed it put a nice bulge in my tire. crossing my fingers here, I’d like to get good enough evidence of negligence on the states behalf to get reimbursement for damages. They will require photos which will be sketchy to get. If anyone has reported it before the 3rd that will be good for my case. Any tips?

I have a baby due in May and am starting to figure out whether it's worth it (or even feasible) to do daycare 2 days a week starting next October. My SO works Thu-Sun, so we'd only need coverage for Thursday/Friday. But I know wait lists are long and providers might not have part time options, plus there's the expense. We qualify for a little bit of a subsidy, but not enough that it would make a huge difference. My SO is a dishwasher and doesn't exactly make a fortune, so it might just be more cost-effective to keep him at home 2 days and lose that pay, although it would make finances tighter. Also, his work might not be thrilled with him dropping down because they'd have to hire someone else for 2 days a week. More info: we live in Winooski, he works in Essex, I work in Waterbury, so anything on those routes are ideal. So if anyone knows any place that's on the cheaper side but still reputable, maybe DM me? Or is it even worth the hassle and expense?

I’m looking for a prep cook position. I have lots of cooking experience but can’t handle the stress of line cooking. I have proficient knife skills and following directions and recipes to the requirements of the employer. I have lots of skills and am looking for part time work because I am on disability but want to work because it makes me feel better to work and helps independence.

okay possible tldr: i’m looking for help replacing the battery on my 2007 6th gen iPod Classic. got this little guy for christmas/my 13th birthday and just found it (again) the other day. i charged it up to 100% last night and left it unplugged over night. Woke up to it at 90% and listened to music continuously for my 40min bus ride to work which brought it down to approx 50-60%. so tbh a whole hell of a lot better than i would expect of a nearly 20yr old piece of tech. still in pretty damn good condition too. however id love for the battery to last longer bc yk nostalgia and it’s honestly so nice to be able to listen to music on a separate device while i charge my phone (apple i’ll never forgive you for nixing the 35mm jack). i’m one of the person that still prefers wired headphones over earbuds— i always lose just one and hate the fact that i have to charge them and fuck around with connecting to bluetooth when i could literally plug them into my phone even with having to use a connector. considering that today is my birthday and it seems fitting, my question is this— is there anyone in the burlington/colchester/winooski/essex area who is confident enough/willing to attempt replacing the battery on this dinosaur? i know they still sell battery replacement kits for the 6th gen and i will absolutely provide that and pay for labor. i also know and accept the risk of failure and it turning into a pretty little paper weight. i mean this thing is almost 20yrs old so id be an idiot not to get that. either way i’ll still have a momento of my teen years. god forbid i can build a damn computer from scratch but am too chicken shit to attempt replacing my iPod battery. there’s no bloating or gapping so it’s not like the current battery is a hazard or anything. anywho, pls help? 🥰

Hiiii community. My name is Amanda. I started my own business Payne and Treasure back in July… I primarily deal in record sales but I also sell niche antiques and such! Three Ween 45s got stolen from me during a market :( I do not have a brick and mortar store so I rely solely on pop ups, markets, bazaars ect for sales… I have combed and combed my pictures from this market season and I have a hunch these were lifted from me around the end of November… with having a full time job, a part time job, and my business venture I’ve been stretched so thin and am kicking myself for just realizing this. But it is not going to deter me from doing everything I can to get these babes back to me!!!! The records are- “Freedom of 76” “Skycruiser” and “Tried and True” and their value is about $300. these are very very niche records. If you see them around and suspect they were stolen then chances are very very likely they are from my collection. Any and every lead is SO very appreciated. Thank you so much for your attention to this I appreciate you happy 2026 from brown town chocolate town 🤎🫶🎶

It's icy as fuck out lately. Give yourself time to stop, dont stop in crosswalks, and pay attention to signs ! I've seen a near miss vehicle vs pedestrian every day the past week Also pedestrians! Watch where you are walking, pay attention to crosswalk signs, DO NOT jaywalk if cars are around!

I’m in Burlington and looking into solar for the first time. Energy bills keep going up and I keep seeing people talk about saving a lot with the right setup. I’m trying to figure out which is the best solar company in Vermont that actually delivers on installs and post-install support. There are tons of mixed reviews online and I don’t want to end up stuck with a company that disappears after the install. Anyone that's gone solar recently, who would you trust and who would you stay away from?

Hope everyone survived the weekend of New Year's festivities. Now bundle up because we're waking up to sub-zero temps and there's snow rolling in this afternoon. Upper Pass Beer is taking over Simple Roots' old space on North Ave, aiming for a February opening. Mad River Glen needs to raise $2.5M by Feb 7 to buy 1,000 acres of backcountry terrain. Mount Mansfield's snow season has shrunk by nearly three weeks since 1965. And Buddy the therapy dog is still making everyone's day at BTV. Plus many more news stories in the full newsletter. My best friend fosters rescue dogs here in Burlington for Champlain Valley Canine Rescue and I've been helping with walking them around the O.N.E. and getting them over their fear of men, since many were abused. These dogs have so much love to give and are looking for their forever homes. The rescue is also looking for other foster volunteers, which is a great way to help without the commitment of adoption. Please share this with folks looking to adopt, and please follow Champlain Valley Canine Rescue (@cvcrvt) on Instagram to learn more. Thanks! Pics are of the pups we've fostered over the last 4-5 months. The first pic is "Balloo" 😍, who is with us now.
